Acrylic toppers are a more affordable option than metal toppers, saving you a few dollars. However, they might require a little extra effort to fit perfectly on your frames. At our shop, we do our best to give them a gentle bend, but occasionally, you might need to adjust them further for a snug fit.

The good news? Adjusting them is simple and requires just a bit of patience. The key is to avoid rushing and always heat the toppers before attempting to bend or shape them. Use hot water, a blow dryer, or even the sun to soften the acrylic before molding it.

Here’s how to get your acrylic toppers fitted just right:

  1. Blow Dryer or Heater
    • Lightly heat the topper until it’s warm enough to be pliable but not too hot.
    • Insert a pencil (or chopstick) through the eyeholes and under the bridge to hold the shape while it cools.
    • Alternatively, place the topper on your glasses frame, hold it in place, and let it cool naturally for a perfect fit.
  2. The Power of the Sun
    • Place your toppers in direct sunlight to warm them up. This method works especially well in sunny, warm climates. Just don’t forget them outside! We recommend setting a timer if you try this.
  3. Gentle Bending Without Heat – just time
    • For a soft bend, skip the heat. Insert a pencil or chopstick through the eyeholes as described above and leave the topper to sit overnight. This will create a gentle curve.
  4. Warm Water Bag
    • Pour slightly cooled water from a tea kettle into a ziplock bag (ensuring it’s not too hot for the bag).
    • Place your glasses on a towel to support the arms and set the warmed topper on your glasses. Let the heat and gentle weight of the water bag mold the topper. As always, avoid overheating your frames!
  5. Cool Iron and Damp Cloth
    • Cover the toppers with a damp washcloth and lightly press with a cool iron for about 15 seconds.
    • Avoid overheating the magnets to prevent demagnetization. Once warm, mold the toppers as described above.

With these methods, you can achieve a perfect fit for your acrylic toppers. Remember, take your time, and the results will be worth it!

Next time you place an order – give metal toppers a try. It’s all we ever wear as they’re thinner and lighter weight and have bolder colors than acylic.
